How the Hammers struck bronze......
|
When Gold and Sullivan took over the club I was slightly underwhelmed but happy that they would at least steady the ship and sort out the finances. They were a safe bet (though we did get relegated due to their decisions on managers) Much like Allardyce they were probably what we needed at the time, four or five years of prudence and stability.
So here we are some five years on supposedly about to embark on a new era for West Ham with the big move and the need to attract more fans and investment and where are we? It appears we are still only concerned about Premiership survival whilst other less established smaller clubs are showing intent and ambition by matching our spending (which has dropped) and finishing above us every season. How is that possible?
I was also underwhelmed with Billic's appointment too as I was hoping for and expecting a real statement of intent, however the jury is still out and he has my backing as any WHU manager would until there is a good reason not to back them.
My opinion of Gold and Sullivan has always been that they are not ambitious enough for a club like us especially now, and that they lack immagination and try to do everything on the cheap and eventually this catches up with them. The Olympic stadium and our transfer policy this year are good examples. Where is the investment needed to kick us on?
We are in the top ten biggest clubs in the country with a large and loyal fanbase, and the the nineteenth richest club in Europe so why the constant mediocrity and disappointment?
In my opinion they have done a decent job and spent a bit of cash but what the club is crying out for now is someone with immagination and ambition who wants to fulfil the clubs potential and maximise the opportunity we have otherwise I fear the Daves are not capable of this and we can only expect more of the same and probably more relegation struggles.
Thanks chaps but please do the right thing for the club now and sell it to someome who can take this great club forward to where it should be.

There's some valid points and concerns in there, but they're lost amongst the Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh nature of the post I'm afraid
The Daves have put some of their shares up for sale, so I suspect we're seeing the early stages of a complete sale

I don't understand why the 'I want it all and I want it now' so called 'fans' don't just fuck off and support Man City or Chelsea who obviously already have what the want.

5 years since they took over. 5 years since we could have potentially folded.
They have not only steadied the ship, they have overseen us be promoted and now we are on the verge of moving to a stadium that should give us the platform to push the "top 6". Hopefully.
So, with the ongoing debt, the costs of the move and let's not forget their own money going into the club for transfers (okay, loans, but still money to buy "better" players', they have done a fantastic job.
All my own honest opinion, of course!

How do you know that mate? They have always said that if anyone comes along with some serious investment then they would consider allowing someone to buy into the club, although actually putting shares up for sale would seem a bit strange considering the club released a statement yesterday which included the lines:
"In terms of the future ownership of the Club, anyone who knows David Sullivan and David Gold will tell you that they realised a lifelong ambition by becoming Joint-Chairmen of West Ham United. Having both grown up in East London and waited decades to become custodians of the Club, it defies logic that they would be looking to sell it at arguably the most exciting period in its history. Thus, they both have made clear that they would like to pass their shares on to their children to keep the Club in their families."
